Chefs cut themselves all the time. It is one of the perils of the trade but if there is one thing that you should probably not do that is cut yourself on live TV. You also certainly don’t expect to see 3 Michelin star chef Gordon Ramsay cut himself either, but he does! Check it out and don’t feel as guilty the next time you cut yourself as it happens to the best of us!
Thought I would share a little game with you all today that although not strictly to do with food it does come in the health and wellness section and anything that can help you give up smoking is a good thing in my book. I got addicted (to the game not cigarettes) and found myself trying to avoid nicotine for 10 minutes! It is all part of a campaign to stop smoking and you can see more here and at least tries to put a little fun in to the activity rather than all the shocking ads we see on a daily basis. The game also comes as a Facebook app here . Have fun playing this one…
Bit of a random one this that combines cooking and technology with a video that has clearly taken somebody out there a long long time to make. We personally think that all copies of photo shop should come shipped like this one with the cookie feature enabled. Best use of food and technology combined we have seen in some time…
They may not be the best chefs in the world and they certainly don’t follow a lot of standard procedures when it comes to cooking that other chefs do but you will struggle to come across 2 more entertaining blokes than the hairy bikers who appear on the BBC. I wanted to share this video of them making a doner kebab as I think it captures them at their most fun and is a great illustration of how much fun cookng should be. We often see stuffy chefs telling us to cut the ingredients in a very precise manner with stern faces but these 2 hairy bikers are what cooking should be all about in my opinion…
Following on from our video recipe yesterday showing you how to make a Full Irish breakfast we follow up today with another recipe using all of Love Irish Food ingredients in showing you how to make some delicious home made Pizzas. This has to be one of the best thing that you could ever make with the kids at the weekend and the best thing is you can just grab whatever left overs you have in the fridge and make lots of interesting pizza toppings out of them. If you love making pizza and think that you should try it at home then this is the recipe for you, go on give it a go…
For as long as I we have been making cooking videos people have been asking us to make a video showing how to make the perfect Irish/English fry up! So many people say they struggle with the timing and that they end up burning half of the breakfast so when Love Irish Food asked us to film a fry up video using their products we jumped at the chance. We have been filming a whole series of recipes using their ingredients recently which you can see here and the idea behind the campaign is that we all start eating more Irish products. So sit back and enjoy the perfect Irish Fry Up….
I wanted to review a restaurant from a chefs point of view and show you the sort of things that I think when I walk in to a restaurant and eat the food. The first victim for one of my reviews was Tribes in Glasthule. It’s a lovely little foodie corner of Dublin and the restaurant is nestled in beside Cavistons and lots of little fruit and beg shops and butchers and was packed even on a Monday night in the depths of winter. Rather than Waffle through what everybody had I thought I would take 3 pictures and talk you through the food as I saw it from a chef’s perspective…
The Starter
Wherever you go in Ireland ou seem to find Goat’s cheese on the menu and no different here. It can get a little repetitive but I always like to give it a try and see what the chef has up his sleeve. Great flavors, lovely soft textures and left me licking the plate wanting more but the presentation was in my mind a little sloppy and simplistic.
The Mains
Presentation on the fish dish was as you can see stunning and by all accounts was delicious and light and just the right portion size. I think that is one thing they get right here in Tribes as nobody left bloated by nobody was left hungry either.
That lovely hunk of meat was a pork belly that had been carefully rolled and was served with Jus, Apple puree and some slightly cold mash (more luke warm than cold but that is just me being picky). The pork was devine and cooked to perfection and worked well with the simple flavors on the plate. A real treat of a main course.
Desserts
They were really stunning simple and elegant desserts. The one pictures below is a lovely rhubarb crumble with Vanilla ice cream which was perfect, unfussy and exactly the way you want to finish off a meal.
Overall
At about 30 quid a head with a couple of cokes and some sparkling water it was great value and Tribes is a great little find with super friendly staff and excellent comfort food that is cooked by a chef that caelrly knows how to find good simple flavors and not over complicate the food. Well worth a trip out by the seaside.
So the link with food is tenous enough here but the dog is eating food so that is what gets him in! I am not normally a massive fan of the animal videos on Youtube as I have seen so many of them but this one really did stand out when I spotted it! We just want to get our own Lookandtaste dog now so as we can sit him up at the counter and get him eating all our recipes. A good fun way to start the week!
Another great little recipe here from Gordon Ramsay that OI found today and wanted to share with you here. The beauty of these recipes from Gordon Ramsay is that they are real snappy, easy to follow and he is showing you exactly how the meat is cooked in a restaurant. I just love the way these videos are shot and who natural the style is so check it out and try cooking one of them as you won’t be disappointed…
Jamie Oliver gets a lot of stick but apart from being the cheeky chappy that he is he also happens to be a very smart bloke. What I love about him is that he gets people cooking and excited about good and opens up the kitchen to a whole new audience. He has just given an amazing and inspirational speech at the TED conference which is not his usual setting but one that he shone in talking about the food we should be eating and thinking a little bit deeper than the usual pucker food. Sit back and enjoy…
